Amara's Lore

Mini Story Version

Amara was banished from her homeland long ago. She doesn't even remember how long it's been anymore. But she will never forget why she was banished. The anger and resentment inside of her will never fade away. She hates to admit this but before her banishment - Amara was a princess of hell....

Amara's History

In the beginning of hell's creation, one family of demons was granted divine right to rule. And with that right they were given an ability - to see souls as the light and energy that they are. Due to this ability, the royal family oversaw all torture of souls to ensure they were beaten down into submission. This way, each soul could be harnessed and used to "power" hell. The royal that was given ownership of a soul would gain more power for themselves as well. The most powerful royal would then ascend the throne. So each royal member was pitted against all others from the very beginning.Amara was just another princess doomed to fight all royals for power. But Amara never had any wish to actually become the queen of hell. She didn't even want a high role in the court. All of that seemed like too much work and responsibility for her. So Amara spent most of her time finding forgotten areas of hell to sit and read books from the mortal realm. And at night she loved to watch as the lights of each soul in hell danced around the streets. It was the most enchanting sight to her because they were all individually amazing and beautiful. She didn't want to force these souls to submit to her and slowly lose their brightness and colors.Due to her love of mortal books and always sneaking away to be alone, Amara ran into many lesser demons on the streets. She even made friends with a few of them. But only one was ever trusted enough to know she was actually a princess. They became best friends that shared everything. If love ever entered hell... it was in the form of Amara's closest friend. To the royal family, Amara was always viewed as a weak princess that only brought shame to them. So most of the time no one cared about her. But one day her younger sister got curious where Amara always ran off to. Her sister was secretly envious of Amara as well as confused about her. So as Amara snuck away from the castle her sister followed.Amara was going about her usual life outside of the castle; talking, reading, and being happy. As she watched, her sister discovered Amara's hidden library of forbidden mortal books. She also discovered how the lesser demons happily but unknowingly gave Amara parts of their souls to sustain Amara's life. Without intending to, Amara had uncovered a secret that made her the biggest threat to any royal vying for the throne. If Amara's sister could erase Amara's existence, then she could use that knowledge to become queen herself. And in that moment, her sister discovered Amara's best friend - and saw how much power that specific soul had. It was exactly what she needed to end Amara and become queen at the same time.A few days later Amara was summoned to the high court. It was there that she discovered she was being charged with treason against the royal family.

Amara's Treason

Mortal knowledge was forbidden in hell because it could be used to get ahead unfairly with power. And Amara's hidden library held countless forbidden books in it. Even without Amara ever having any souls submit to her, the possibility that she had special knowledge that could force all to submit if she wanted caused enough fear to find her guilty. She was forced to watch as all of her precious books were burned with hellfire. Her books of adventure, love, freedom, and countless lifetimes she could never experience were all gone. Amara was devastated. Her family picked this moment to bring out Amara's lesser demon companions she had met over the years. Each of them admitted all kinds of crimes that Amara had never done. She knew they were being forced to say these things. That was just how the royal family worked - with torture. And now they wanted to break Amara too before they gave her the sentence for this "treason". But Amara wasn't going to let them win. No matter what happened, she refused to let them break her.And then, Amara's best friend was brought out. It was obvious she had been tortured physically. But what made Amara become emotional wasn't the physical damage she could see. It was the light of her friend's soul. It wasn't the comfortable, shimmering, vibrant dark blue light Amara had seen for so many years. It was dim and barely visible. No matter what the royals did to her, Amara's friend would not submit to them and tell lies like the others had. Even if it meant her death. As Amara was forced to watch, someone in the court was about to become physically violent with Amara's friend. For fear that more physical violence would extinguish the last of her friend's soul, Amara stepped forward and shielded her friend without thinking. And in that moment, Amara had done something that was previously impossible. She could use power without having enough souls submit to her for it. Everyone in the court saw it happen and realized in the same moment that Amara was all of their biggest obstacle to obtaining the throne for themselves.Within seconds every guard swarmed Amara and pinned her down. They used divine chains that sealed her royal status powers and suspended her on the walls like they did to peasants in cells. Amara was forced to hang there and watch as her best friend was beaten beyond normal limits. Even still, her friend would not submit to them. And in her last breath she looked directly at Amara and whispered "I love you. And I give my soul to you Amara."

Amara's Banishment

Everything was silent as the soul of Amara's friend drifted over to her still chained to the wall. Even the demons that did not have the royal ability to see souls watched in shock and awe as her friend's soul wrapped around the divine chains and broke them. The soul then fused within Amara's chest. In that moment Amara felt the weight of her friend's words. She could feel a warmth she had never experienced before and she knew it was the love her friend had mentioned. Also in that moment, Amara discovered the truth about her friend. She wasn't a lesser demon at all. She was a divine messenger.Amara would never know why such a soul was sent here. Nor why, instead of leaving using her heavenly abilities, a divine messenger decided to stay, endure torture, and submit to a demon like herself. All Amara had ever wanted was to live in peace reading her books and watching souls light up hell. And now her books and her one true friend were gone. She had never felt anger like this before. Without thinking, she waved her hands and set fire to the room. She knew from the beginning of this farce that she would be put to death for the forbidden library. Before that happened she wanted to watch everything burn.Once the fire had stopped the high court was left shocked. The room should have been fireproof but everything around them was left smoldering in ashes. And as if a second thought entirely, each member of the high court noticed Amara still standing in the same spot. She had a look on her face of satisfaction, acceptance, and a level of anger that had never been seen in hell before. Still, she didn't try to run. Amara faced the entire royal court without fear - ready for them to execute her as they had planned from the start. However, having the power of a divine messenger fuse within her own soul meant Amara now had the power of demon royalty as well as the gods. And that meant she was impossible for anyone in hell to kill. Within minutes a unanimous vote was cast calling for Amara's immediate banishment from the only home she had ever known.

AmaraHugs: The Demon-Kitty

The only reminders of Amara's original home are:
1) Her knife that had been forged in hellfire. It never loses it's sharpness and always remains beautiful.
2) Her memories that should have all been erased the moment she crossed the boundary of hell and the mortal world. Amara figures the memories remain due to the divinity now fused within her own soul.
3) The symbol of her demon royalty status - the "Eternal Rose" - that she stole as she was leaving hell. This flower is proof of what Amara lived through. It reacts only to those from the true royal lineage. The "Eternal Rose" is also the only way to show who is actually the most powerful and fit to take over the throne. Taking it with her was Amara's way of inciting chaos in hopes that every royal would be overthrown one day.

Since her banishment began Amara has wandered earth hoping to live some of those adventures she used to read about. Of course, reality is never like the books though. To keep her company, Amara has her three-eyed guardian cat "Nyx" that found her after she crossed the boundary of hell and the mortal realm. Nyx used to belong to her best friend and follows her friend's soul. Now that her friend's soul is apart of her own, Nyx will belong to Amara forever. This knowledge makes Amara happy because she feels like her friend is always with her. And even though Amara can never go home she also never feels alone. With her banishment, Amara has gained many new souls that she is now able to cherish and keep safe thanks to the abilities she gained from her friend's divinity. Even though she isn't in hell, she is still able live out part of her dream to watch souls light up the night sky. And maybe one day she will be able to return home and exact revenge on each royal demon that took her best friend away from her. But until then....Welcome to Amara's own plane of existence - her "Cozy Circle of Hell".
